We were in luck that night. We had gone to see our favourite Rennes natives, Lug Na, who were playing at La Flèche d’Or on that brisk night, January 3, 2009. We were there with Ed, and the phenomenal show offered up a new discovery: the Parisian band Hold Your Horses. Numerous on stage and possessed by an intense energy, their folky, danceable sound made us want to learn more about them. At the end of the concert, we exchanged small talk and good intentions. Our paths would cross again, and this time a camera would be invited along. Six months later, destiny brought us together once again, in a corn field high above a river valley during the Route du Rock 2009. But no. Destiny left us empty-handed. Ne me demandez pas comment, il y a deux mois, je suis tombée sur WU LYF (World Unite Lucifer Youth Foundation), je ne m’en souviens pas. We’re doing it in the 80’s room.” 7:05PM: Contemplate connotations of shooting Echo & The Bunnymen in the 80’s room. 7:10PM: Location looks good, ready to film. 7:45PM: Tour manager arrives. “Mac doesn’t want to come downstairs. We’re doing this in the dressing room. It won’t take very long will it?” 7:50PM: Contemplate what work looks like when people ask questions like “it won’t take very long will it?” 8PM: Follow tour manager up first flight of stairs. “Wait here.
